Diary of a Tree (3)

Hi great people.

I'm back with something very dear to me...our trees. Apart from my love ones, these trees do occupy a special place in my heart.

So, dear friends, let's unwind with some 'nature talks'.

Hi, how are you dear readers?
It's me again...the same young bubbly tree.
I'm now about 27 months old.
As you can see, I'm quite big and tall now.

It looks brownish as the weeds in the plantation area had been sprayed with weed killer.

We're glad as there are no more annoying and irritating weeds and grass around us. At times, the weed killer did suffocate and intoxicate us though.

Despite it has gotten rusty, the gate stood strong and steady guarding us from any intruders.

To my dear readers,
Thank you for reading...and till we meet again...

Daybook 3

Good afternoon people!
This is my third daybook entry.
Come to think of it, Daybook Entry always come in handy for the blogger who, at times, suffers from the writer's block.

For today :: June 1, 2013

Outside my window. . .  lots of sunshine but there's also dark gloomy clouds across the sky.

I am thinking . . .  of my hubby who's toiling in the hot sun of the first day of June... to spray the weeds in our farm. Since we started the plantation years ago, he has been enduring numerous long hours of hard work  under the scorching tropical sun ... battling with pests and weeds.

From the kitchen. . .  NesLo and mom's rice ball cakes; white rice is in the steamer while a half-bird of roasted chicken is in the magic grill.

I am wearing. . . T-shirt and tights. . . as usual I would go for comfy and easy to wear stuff.

I am remembering. . .  my conversations with family and friends. . . in the past few days.

I am reading. . .  'Confessions by A Shopaholic', by Sophie Kinsella (only once my housework is done - otherwise I would read the day away!)

I am hoping . . .  to finish the unfinished works.

I am hearing. . .  children's talking and screaming...from a distance.

Around the house. . .  still pretty quiet.

I am going. . .  to help my daughter pack her luggage for the seven-day trip...she'll be leaving for the City of Angels tomorrow...it's a sponsored trip and we're thankful for that.

A favourite quote for today. . . Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned!

From my picture journal . . .

Diary of A Tree (2)

Hi everyone.
It's been a while since I last updated my blog.
Don't worry! There won't be any excuses whatsoever.
The one and only reason is laziness. Yes! Exactly slothfulness kept me away from my blog.

I'm back with something very dear to me...my trees. Apart from my love ones, these trees do occupy a special place in one of the four chambers.

So, dear readers and friends, let's unwind with some 'nature talks'.

Hi, how are you dear readers?
It's me again...the same young bubbly tree.
I'm now about eight months old.
As you can see, I'm quite leafy now.

I'm stronger and bigger.
My barely eight month-old trunk boasts a diameter of 6cm.

As you can see here, I'm now blessed with two layers of fat green leaves. In fact, I'm now taller than my Mrs Boss...he he...

But Mr Weeds and his friends were quite bold. Despite numerous efforts to get rid of them ...by my boss, they keep coming back.

They were quite overwhelming. They swarmed most of my friends, especially those who are vertically challenged.

Thanks to my ever diligent and energetic boss. Equipped with his newly bought grass-cutter machine, he mowed down Mr Weeds, his family as well as his stubborn friends.

My assiduous boss in action.

Weeds and grass near the main entrance was cleared.

Weeds around my other friends are gone too.

Almost the whole farm was cleared. I can now enjoy a better view of our beautiful place. Thank you Mr Boss. Thank you very much for giving us a new lease of life.

To my dear readers,
Thank you for reading...and till we meet again...

Diary of A Tree (1) ...

All life begins with a seed. So do I.

When the seed germinated, my small root began to grow downward and my shoot grow upward. When the shoot broke the surface, I was called a 'sprout'.

I used water and nutrients from the soil along with sunlight and air to grow and change into a 'seedling'. At this stage, I was a small plant with few leaves that was vulnerable to the elements. Those few stages of my life taken place at a huge nursery specialising in germinating and cultivating rubber saplings.

My friends and I were transported from the nursery which is about half
an hour's drive from our new home, the farm, in a vintage Toyota.

We (all 580 of us) were planted on Monday, July 25, 2011 by
our owner's dad and brother, Chai. Sadly, as many as hundreds of my friends needed to be replaced with healthier vigorous seedlings as they couldn't withstand the test of time and some due to incompatible soil and heat intolerance.

Our life wasn't a bed of roses. We have to compete with weeds for moisture, nutrients and sunlight. Thus, our boss has to apply commercial weed killer when we're barely one month old. And another round of herbicide was applied as my friends and I were swarmed and entwined by some notorious weeds and vines. This time, it took my boss three whole days to complete the spraying, i.e. from November 26 to 28, 2011.

Subsequently,  after a quite intensive weeding by hands and hoe on December 2 and 3, 2011 our rows are in fine shape, with only some stubborn growths in between the rows that managed to elude the herbicide.

Concurrently, we were fed with grains of fertilizer.
Thanks bosses...as you know, the amount of nutrients in the soil is dwindling.
