Daybook 19

Good evening peeps!
I haven't done a daybook entry for three days!
Blame it on the work ...loads of work.

For today  ::  June 28, 2013

Outside my window. . . it's dark ...as usual as it's almost eleven ...

From my kitchen . . . stir fried squids and prawns tomyam-style, grilled red meat in dark soy sauce, 'kailan' with minced shallots and garlic ...

I am thinking. . . of The Big Leap ... it is scary because it has the potential of life-changing ... making a decision to take a life-changing leap often comes down to just that ... making  the decision ... STILL ...

I am remembering. . . my family and friends ...

I am going. . . to watch my fave movie on Z ...

I am reading. . . Heartland: Comes What May by Lauren Brooke ...

I am hearing. . . firing shots from the Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol ... hubby is glued to the telly ... it's a rare scene ... all in all due to Cruise's daring stunts ... the hunk is seen dangling from the 2,717 feet Burj Khalifa ...

Around the house. . . looks incredibly uncluttered after the old newspapers and books taken to the TzuChi Collection Centre last weekend ...feeling great!

One of my favorite things. . . is ...  to whip up nutritious meals for my love ones ... using local herbs and spices which provide distinctive flavour and aroma ... and my family love them to bits ...

A favourite quote for today . . . It is better to travel well than to arrive!

From my picture journal. . .

Daybook 18

Good evening lovelies!
It's another evening daybook update.

For today  ::  June 25, 2013

Outside my window. . . it's raining, it's pouring ...it's dark ... street lights flickering in the distance ... it's a blessing ... the downpour is very much awaited ... hope it can purify the polluted air ...

From my kitchen . . . herbs roasted chicken, fried fish, blanch Chinese mustard, tiny aubergines and toad bitter gourd ...

I am thinking. . . of The Big Leap ... it is scary because it has the potential of life-changing ... making a decision to take a life-changing leap often comes down to just that ... making  the decision!

I am remembering. . . my family and friends ... the hot and humid weather is bothering them..

I am going. . . to wash, dry, fold and fold ...

I am reading. . . Heartland: Comes What May by Lauren Brooke ...

I am hearing. . . the whirring noise of my automatic washer ... is quite annoying ...but it remains the number ONE household helper ...

Around the house. . . pretty quiet ...

One of my favorite things. . . is ...  to see the sweet smile on my students' face when they received their very much awaited present ...

A favourite quote for today . . . It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell!

Daybook 17

Good evening lovelies!
This is the very first time I update my daybook late at night.

For today  ::  June 24, 2013

Outside my window. . . it's pitch dark ... only street lights and lights from a few units across the street seen blinking ...the sky is dark too... the moon is invisible as the haze is quite thick ...

From my kitchen . . . Chinese Five Spice Powder and herbs roasted chicken, fried fish, blanch Chinese mustard, seafood tomyam (the leftover from yesterday's dinner) ...

I am thinking. . . of The Big Leap ... it is scary because it has the potential of life-changing ... making a decision to take a life-changing leap often comes down to just that ... making  the decision!

I am remembering. . . my favourite lecturer's words ... in his email he wrote these magic words ... You're a deserving candidate ... Hope you'll be called!  He makes my day!

I am going. . . to wash, dry, fold and fold ...

I am reading. . . Heartland: Comes What May by Lauren Brooke ...

I am hearing. . . the whizzing of my PC ...quite annoying but it's still the best ...

Daybook 16

Good afternoon lovelies!
It's a Saturday and it's another weekend.
Today, I set about doing a few tasks and I manage to accomplish most of them.
A very fruitful day indeed!

For today  ::  June 22, 2013

Outside my window. . . the sun is peeking through ... though the PSI reading here is still very very low ... compared to those in the southernmost states ... its presence is felt ... I only have a pale view of the hills and the haze shrouded skyline ...

From my kitchen . . . seafood tomyam, stir-fried 'kailan', fried beaten eggs and steamy white rice ... hubby pitches in with the cooking today ... thus, making my kitchen chores lighter ...

I am going. . . to wash, press, sort, bundle up ... and send them away ...

I am reading. . . Heartland: Comes What May by Lauren Brooke ... together with my book club members ... we'd our first session for the second book at a wonderful fast food joint in town early this morning ...

I am hearing. . . the blare of television animated movie A Monster in Paris ...

Around the house. . . pretty cozy and inviting ...

One of my favorite things. . . is ...  got to read something new every day ...

A favourite quote for today . . . It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell!

Daybook 15

Good afternoon lovelies!
It's a Friday and over here, it's a weekend.

For today  ::  June 21, 2013

Outside my window. . . the sun is making its mark ... though the PSI reading here is very very low ... its presence is felt ... I only have a pale view of the hills...

From my kitchen . . . fried yellow noodles with eggs and shredded cabbage ... and of course some aromatic Neslo.

I am thinking. . . of my former lecturer, Mdm. Lucille Dass (today is her birthday) ... of how our path crossed about two decades ago ... she changed my life ... to be a better teacher ... from a naive young student-teacher who struggled with her own advancement and the pursue of  guiding and helping others....

I am remembering. . . my favourite lecturer's words ... truly great teachers are rare ... I've only had a few ... there are plentiful good teachers, and far too many bad teachers, but great teachers can be hard to come by ... I've noticed that these teachers have a few things in common.

I am going. . . to cook, roast, fry, blanch and wash and wash ...

I am reading. . . articles on passionate teachers ...

I am hearing. . . the blare of songs from my son's lappy ...

Around the house. . . pretty cool and gloomy ...

One of my favorite things. . . is seeing a sense of satisfaction and a big smile on my pupils' face ... after each lesson.

A favourite quote for today . . . Those who are free of resentful thoughts, surely find peace!

From my picture journal. . .

Madam Lucille,
You gave me strength,
You gave me courage,
You gave me confidence,
You made me a better person,
Thank you for your patience,
You're a wonderful lecturer
who proved that learning can be fun
and a wonderful experience.

Happy Birthday Madam Lucille.
May your special day be blessed
with every goodness God plans to bestow upon you!

Daybook 14

Good afternoon lovelies!
Today, cool breeze greeted me once I stepped out of my car.

For today  ::  June 19, 2013

Outside my window. . . the afternoon sunlight is peeking through the cumulus ... the weatherman says the sun is going to work hard this week ... we're warming up.

I am thinking. . . of those who teach ... and have entered this profession with passion and drive, but, as their careers progress, they feel this spark dimmed! Yes! Most of them have lost their vigor and enthusiasm.

I am remembering. . . my favourite lecturer's words ... truly great teachers are rare ... I've only had a few ... there are plentiful good teachers, and far too many bad teachers, but great teachers can be hard to come by ... I've noticed that these teachers have a few things in common.

I am going. . . to fold and fold ...

I am reading. . . articles on passionate teachers ...

I am hearing. . . the blare of TV commercials ...

Around the house. . . pretty cosy ...

One of my favorite things. . . is seeing a sense of satisfaction and a big smile on my pupils' face ... after each lesson.

A favourite quote for today . . . Those who are free of resentful thoughts, surely find peace!

Daybook 13

Good evening peeps!
Today I'm home earlier (than yesterday), but not much is accomplished so far as bagua and mirrors distracted me ...quite badly.

For today  ::  June 18, 2013

Outside my window. . . the sun is scorching ... there are thin wisp of cirrus across the sky ...

I am thinking. . . of friends ... at times their conducts puzzled me ... they baffled me with endless antics...

I am remembering. . . someone's words and views ... of how they hold on to their beliefs ... at the expense of others.

I am going. . . to wash, dry, cook, fry, grill and blanch ... then, fold and fold ...

I am reading. . . Buddhism and Astrology ... ditched The Speed of Light by Javier Cercas ... at last ...

I am hearing. . . a sentimental song from my son's lappy ...

Around the house. . . pretty cosy ...

One of my favorite things. . . is seeing a sense of satisfaction and a big smile on my pupils' face ... after each lesson.

A favourite quote for today . . . Glory, built on selfish principles, is shame and guilt!

Growing Phonics 2

They have always been a handful.
They are labelled the naughtiest kids in the school.
They are the noisiest, too.
Undoubtedly, most of them are with ADHD!

Be that as it may, they turned in their homework on time last Thursday.
It's their Growing Phonics. When I entered their class that day,
everyone was ready with their Phonic Pot!
It seemed all of them were waiting for the photo shoot session eagerly.
I beamed from ear to ear.

It works!
A little change did make a huge difference!

And, here are the wide-eyed antsy kids with their treasured Phonic Pot ...

The most adorable ones with the brightest blooming phonics flowers.

They are struggling kids, but, alas they managed.

They did it, too.

Brimming with joy.

These are ours!

The chubbies with their laudable pieces.

We did it, too!

Oww! There's a bud among the blooming ones!

Aren't they dainty?

Ours are perky!

The special one with his charming piece!

Daybook 12

Good afternoon peeps!
Just reached home from work.
It's indeed a tiring day... marked and graded heaps of students' work and yet,
there's a lot more piling up on my working table.

For today  ::  June 17, 2013

Outside my window. . . is a little gloomy ... the sun is playing hide and seek with the cumulus ... as well as the nimbus...

I am thinking. . . of my goal ... long term goal in life ... more rapid and fruitful strides are needed.

I am remembering. . . my youngest brother ... today he's going to make a major leap in his adult life ...
attending an interview at a leading ICT company in town ... the fact that he's invited to attend the interview shows that his qualifications meet the basic requirements of the company ... though only the trial result is used.

I am going. . . to wash, dry, fold and stack ....

I am reading. . . The Speed of Light by Javier Cercas ... but this book hasn't hooked me on the very first page ... howbeit, I'm not giving up... as yet!

I am hearing. . . motorbike zooming past and my son's reading from his virtual book ...

Around the house. . . pretty quiet ...

One of my favorite things. . . being able to work in a cosy environment ... with awesome colleagues.

A favourite quote for today . . . The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary!

Good afternoon peeps!
Feeling great ... it's still a weekend!

For today  ::  June 15, 2013

Outside my window. . . the sun is shining brightly ... it's scorching actually...

I am thinking. . . of my goal ... long term goal in life ... and I'm glad that I''ve initiated the first move.

I am remembering. . . my dad ... tomorrow is Father's Day ... alas, it's a working day... but, every day is Father's Day for my dad ... as I see it.

I am going. . . to whip up my very own version of Panchetta ...

I am reading. . . The Speed of Light by Javier Cercas ... but this book hasn't hooked me on the very first page ... howbeit, I'm not giving up... as yet!

I am hearing. . . motorbike zooming past and a faint sound of music from my son's room...

Around the house. . . pretty quiet ...

One of my favorite things. . . reading the day away and updating my blog ...

A favourite quote for today . . . Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.

Daybook10

Good morning peeps!
The weather is extremely good today.
There's cool breeze blowing through my window.

For today  ::  June 14, 2013

Outside my window. . . the sun is around ...somewhere...masked by the thick rain clouds across the sky.

I am thinking. . . of my goal ... long term goal in life ...I'm contented but...

I am remembering. . . my friend's words ... a very dear friend ... her words cut like a knife ... all and all, her criticism seems baseless and she doesn't know how to let go ...

I am going. . . to wash, dust, cook and .... many more ...

I am reading. . . The Speed of Light by Javier Cercas ... but this book hasn't hooked me on the very first page ... howbeit, I'm not giving up...

I am hearing. . . children's giggling and talking ... missing my childhood days!

Around the house. . . pretty quiet .

One of my favorite things. . . reading the day away.... still!

A favourite quote for today . . . Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over!

Growing Phonics

I've learnt a valuable lesson through trials and errors.
Class control is always the biggest headache in my school.
Our pupils are extremely rowdy and chatty.
Thus, to keep them on their toes, a well-laid out lesson is a necessity.

Since we're half way through the phonics lesson (for this year), a revised lesson on phonics is timely.
For the lesson to sail through without glitches, ADVANCE PREPARATION is the key word!
Every single item needs to be patented and pre-cut for the kids.
Once all's set, you could sit back and observe as the lesson unfolds before your very eyes.
As the saying goes, You shall reap what you sow!

The Growing Phonics pot.

Lots of love for the pot.

Children hard at work.

He's yet to grow his phonics plant.

Draw ... draw ... cut ... cut.

The 'oo' flower.

The pot and the flower.

The kids gave me their word. Their Phonic Pots would be on my table the first thing in the morning tomorrow. We shall see ....

A little pizza ... a gleam of hope

The 'Pizza Contest' as the kids used to call it, is here again!
Everyone was very excited when they were informed about the contest, especially the first-timers.
They conjured up the image of finger-licking gooey cheesy pizzas in their head!
The beauty of this activity is that the drawing and describing keep them on their toes and they could enjoy doing what they love to do.

Spinning the tales.

Guidelines and more guidelines.

Adapt ... adapt ... write ... write.

Concentrating.

Under the watchful eyes.

Even the notorious is tamed!

The front cover is taking shape.

Supervising.

Comments... comments ... praises!

The work of a once hardheaded boys!

Illustrated by a girl who never did her homework!

Drawn by the 'Bully King'.

The work of an artistic boy.

In the name of PIZZAS, one boy can team up with three girls.

NIE activity is in full swing.
