Kathina 2011...กฐิน ๒๐๑๑

It was two weeks ago when I last updated my blog.
I'm back...and very sorry to have placed my blog status as 'temporarily abandoned'!
In this entry, I'd love to share a cultural and religious activity.
Yes! You've heard me correctly. It's about Kathina (กฐิน)!

If you're unsure what Kathina is, please click here or here for further information.
It's never my intention to have a lengthy explanation here on Kathina.
I'm more inclined to show you our family-get-together in performing the holy rite.

And ... another vital message to be conveyed and understood by all ...
... is to be aware of some thing we are undertaking is Buddhist way of doing things which is technically called Right Understanding. There is more chance for Right Understanding when Right Mindfulness is present...(Bhikkhu Dhammasami)

So...let's savour the colourful pictures of the ceremony...

From the Sengsuwans ...

An array of religious paraphernalia ...

Meticulously prepared...

Specially wrapped ...

Books...beautifully wrapped...

The little princess who joined in the ceremony ...

The two beloved mom and her sis...

Waiting ...

The prince and princess...

The entourage led by the big dad ...

Taking great steps up the holy site...the century-old 'phra ubosodh'

The three great men...hubby, son and dad

Son ...

Some of the clan members ...

The grand 'giving'...

Our Wedding Anniversary ...

Our wedding was many years ago.
The celebration continues to this day.
~Gene Perret

Wowww ... We are married for 17 years today. Seventeen years! And we dated two years to the month before that. Thus, we've been together as a couple for 19 years.

And, this year's anniversary is special. Its uniqueness lies in the date...11-11-11.
This mystical date does hold some significance for those who believe in the date's supernatural abilities. 11:11 holds a certain mystique, and kissing a clock at that time is said to bring good luck. What's more if the clock is to be replaced with a man...the man who's been with me for almost two decades...

Seventeen years ago today, I was in The Little House on the Hill, surrounded by my family and friends. I was about to marry the man of my dreams. He was smart, good-looking, brilliant, thoughtful, loving and kind. I was head over heels in love with him.

There’s lots of things with which I’m blessed since we got married. We’d gotten a few cars. We’d moved back to his hometown from the city. We had bought a house, and we are raising a son and daughter.

He’s still all of those wonderful things that made me want to spend my life with him. Seventeen years on, I love him more than ever. It’s been a seventeen-year with ups and downs, triumphs and tribulations, joy and sorrow.

Happy Anniversary, dear hubby.
Thank you for the past 17 years.
I love you.

Loy Krathong Festival...

Loy Krathong Festival would take place this evening, the full moon
of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.
Buddhists of varied ages would congregate at rivers,
lakes and waterways to perform the holy ritual.

Since I've never shared the pictures taken during the last year's celebration, I would love to 'flood' this entry with the fabulous 'krathongs' pictures taken by no other than our family's official photographer, my brilliant brother, Chai.

All these fresh-looking krathongs are made from organic materials. So, don't worry...they won't pollute the waters.

This year's pictures will be made available soon... I promise...

Things Changed and They Changed ...

They were kind.
They were good.
They were helpful.
They were friendly.
They were generous.
They were courteous.
They were extremely pleasant.
They were neighbours from heaven.

That was many months ago.
That was their 'darkest hours'.
That was when they were neither with friends nor allies.
That was when no one in the neighbourhood ever talked to them.

Things changed.
They are popular.
Hordes of  ignoramuses frequent their den.
They are literally shot to stardom when their 'black magic' astonishingly works.

They are no longer the neighbours from heaven.
They are just the opposite.
Their kids are rude.
They are mean.

We have lost them... indefinitely!
But, I do hope...that it won't be for long ...
